The Karoo, from a Khoikhoi word, possibly garo “desert” is a semi-desert natural region of South Africa. There is no exact definition of what constitutes the Karoo, and therefore its extent is also not precisely defined. The Karoo is partly defined by its topography, geology and climate — above all, its low rainfall, arid air, cloudless skies, and extremes of heat and cold. The Karoo also hosted a well-preserved ecosystem hundreds of million years ago which is now represented by many fossils.
Two great guesthouses, two different locations, we have got Prince Albert covered for you. Bookings can be made here for both. Karoo View Cottages with it’s magnificent views of the Swartberg Mountains and Karoo Masterclass set in the peaceful southern end of the town with it’s own unique view of the mountains.

The Great Karoo straddles the 30° S parallel on the west of the continent, in a similar position to other semi-desert areas on earth, north and south of the equator. It is furthermore in the rainfall shadow of the Cape Fold Mountains along the western coastline. The western "Lower Karoo" (the Tankwa Karoo and Moordenaarskaroo) contain remnants of the Cape Fold Mountains (e.g. the Witteberg and Anysberg Mountains) which give it a moderate hilly appearance; but further east the Lower Karoo becomes a monotonously flat plain. The "Upper Karoo" has been intruded by dolerite sills (see below), creating multiple flat topped hills, or "Karoo Koppies", which are iconic of the Great Karoo.The vegetation of the Upper and Lower Karoo is similar, so that few people make a distinction between the two.

- Our Karoo Masterclass House offers you 3 Spacious bedrooms sleeping 6.
- The house also has a Studio Suite or Bachelor Pad – bedroom with en-suite bathroom that sleeps 2 – on 2 single beds or a Super King Size Bed.
- For the winter months, the house has a log fireplace, room heaters, bathroom underfloor heating and electric blankets on all beds.
- For the summer months, each room, lounge, dining room and TV room has air-conditioners and the house is fully cooled.
- Large open plan lounge and large open plan dining area are right next to the fully equipped open plan style kitchen
- The kitchen boasts a Smeg 5 Plate gas stove & electric oven, convection microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, coffee plunger, large fridges and freezers, ice trays, filtered water, dishwasher & washing machine. Certainly this is a kitchen to be proud of.
- Complimentary health breakfast provisions; 2 cereals, home baked muesli and rusks, farm milk & juice, yoghurt, 5 roses & rooibos tea, Nescafe coffee, filter coffee grounds, white & brown sugar, including sweeteners, salt & pepper.
- Crockery, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans, egg boiler, blender and just simply loads more.
- Parking is safe, off street and undercover close to the house.
- Property is fully fenced and the house has an alarm with 24 hour armed response

Beautiful property, great communication prior to arrival, kind staff. The bed is huge and comfortable. Neat and clean property, the swimming pool was neat and water not too cold. Cereal, rusks and yogurt with milk and juice was a kind and nice touch. Water pressure is great for shower. The area is quiet and safe.

We loved our stay in the Masterclass Cottage. It is very spacious, modern with nice furniture. Everything you need in the kitchen. We appreciated the extras for breakfast. The Cottage is very private. Howard’s communication was excellent before and during our stay. The check in with Izette was super easy. She kept in touch with us before we arrived. We enjoyed the swimming pool in the Karoo heat. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
